About

One sweep, doing the job himself, properly.

My name is James, your local NACS Approved chimney sweep, based in Seaford. When you ring, you get me, and I'm the one who turns up, sweeps the chimney and checks the fire.

I keep things clean and tidy in your home, turn up when I say I will, and charge fair prices. Some customers have had me back for years, and I'm always happy to give advice, whether that's on a stove you've inherited with a new house or where your carbon monoxide alarm should go.

Above the roofline, I fit bird guards, cowls and caps, and I clear the jackdaws, nests and debris that end up in Sussex chimneys. For tall or awkward stacks, I work from an access platform rather than a ladder.

“He popped around to check he could actually do the job as we had had another chimney sweep who had not been able to!”

Services

Everything from the fireplace to the chimney pot.

Not sure which you need? Ring or message and describe the problem. I'll tell you straight.

  1. 01

    Chimney sweeping

Open fires, wood burners and flues swept properly, with the room left as clean as I found it. I check the fire while I'm there and give honest advice on what comes next.

  2. 02

    Stove maintenance

Stove servicing, so yours burns safely and efficiently through the winter.

  3. 03

Stove glass, firebricks, door & glass seals

Cracked glass, crumbling firebricks and tired seals replaced, so the stove closes tight and draws as it should.

  4. 04

    Birdguards, cowls & chimney pots

Bird guards, cowls and caps fitted to keep birds, rain and debris out of the flue, or to cap off a chimney that's no longer in use.

  5. 05

    Bird & squirrel nests removed

Nests cleared from blocked flues, and trapped birds released, before a guard goes on to stop it happening again.

  6. 06

    Seagull nesting & perching prevention

A coastal problem. Measures to stop gulls nesting and perching on your stack and roof.

  7. 07

    CO & smoke detectors

Carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, with advice on where they need to go in your home.

  8. 08

    Landlord safety checks

Chimney and stove checks for landlords who need to know their tenants' fires are safe to use.

Birds in the chimney

Jackdaw in the flue? Get the bird out, then the guard on.

Jackdaws, gulls and squirrels love an open chimney pot. I release trapped birds, clear the nest and the flue, then fit a cowl or bird guard so you're not dealing with it again next spring. Chimneys you no longer use can be capped off neatly.

“Just moved to Seaford and had 2 Jackdaws trapped in the flue! Rang James and he arrived same afternoon and managed to remove a live Jackdaw from our gas fire flue as well as a dead one. He then fitted a cowl to the chimney to stop further problems.”

Tall & awkward stacks

Three storeys up is no problem.

Town houses, steep pitches and stacks you can't reach from a ladder. I bring an access platform so cowls, caps and guards go on safely.

“Scaling a pitched roof of a 3-storey town house was no problem. Even sent me a picture!”

Why sweep?

What comes out of a flue in a year.

Soot and tar build up every time you light the fire. A swept flue draws better and burns cleaner, and a blocked one is a fire and carbon monoxide risk. Book in before the colder evenings, and I'll check the stove, seals and detectors while I'm there.

  • Flue swept, room left clean
  • Fire and stove checked
  • CO and smoke detector advice
  • Seals, glass and firebricks replaced if needed

“Just moved to Seaford and had 2 Jackdaws trapped in the flue! Rang James and he arrived same afternoon and managed to remove a live Jackdaw from our gas fire flue as well as a dead one. He then fitted a cowl to the chimney to stop further problems. James was courteous, friendly, helpful and efficient. He ensured everywhere was clean after the job. The cost was also very reasonable. We were very happy with the service provided. Highly recommended and will use again.”

“James was responsive with a Can-do attitude. He knew how to make a property as safe as possible, where to place CO2 monitors, how to service stoves and replace seals and has an eye for detail. He is patient and thorough. Highly recommend him.”

“James was great. He popped around to check he could actually do the job as we had had another chimney sweep who had not been able to! He then returned and cleaned the chimney. Very nice, friendly chap and did an excellent job. Reasonable price too. Thank you James.”

Excellent service

“James responded very quickly to a situation where we had a bird trapped in our chimney breast. He was able to release the bird safely and clean the flue. As promised he returned later to fix a new cowl to the chimney pot. All work carried out efficiently, with minimum disruption. James was very extremely knowledgable, polite and friendly. Highly recommeded.”
